To My Husband on His First Father’s Day: You’re Just Okay (jk jk jk)

If you’re a fan of my blog, you know I got a little kick out of the viral article that praised moms for being “enough” when I feel sassy, confident, and plenty on the daily.  In fact, when I compare myself to hubs, I am even more confident that I’m kicking this whole mom thing in the butt.

As Father’s Day approaches, I’m thinking maybe he and his cronies are the ones who need a reminder that we’re still generally thankful for their bare minimum-meeting asses.

To the dad who takes on at least one poopy diaper a month…

To the dad who fails to take that one dirty diaper bag outside and, instead, stinks up the house…

To the dad who puts his dish in the sink but never the dishwasher…

To the dad who replaces the formula in the canister but fails to throw away the box…

To the dad who at least gets his own laundry done…

To the dad who is relaxing on the couch, twirling his finger for his little one’s amusement while he focuses much more intently on Harry Potter in the background…

You’re okay, guy.

Bahahaha.  On a serious note, my husband is a GRAND daddy.  Well, he’s not a grandparent.  You get what I’m saying.  HE’S GREAT (…beyond the above).

So:

To the dad who comes home and cooks dinner nightly after a long day at work…

To the dad who mows the lawn weekly so that we can keep landscaping out of our strict budget…

To the dad who doesn’t complain about cheaper dinners and eating out less so that the little one can have a college fund…

To the dad who takes the initiative and makes career moves for the sake of his family…

To the dad who recognizes his lady’s exhaustion and takes on getting up with the baby throughout the night…

To the dad who officially replaced his nightly relaxation time with story time…

To the dad who does “everything else” while I tend to the baby…

To the dad who thinks he knows the baby better than anyone– including his momma– and shares tips of his own…

To the former bar-hopping dad who now shows off his little one’s pictures to the bartenders on those once-in-a-blue-moon date nights…

To the dad who fears fevers and googles signs and symptoms to ensure the little one is doing okay…

To the dad who stopped seeing a make-up-less wife and instead started seeing a beautiful, nurturing momma with little to no time for herself…

You are more than enough.

I thank God for you every night before I go to sleep.

Thank you and I’m thrilled to be on your team.

Love,

Your wife
